Arakan Army Troops Conduct Inspections in Northern Maungdaw Township : One Rohingya Man Arbitrarily Arrested

International Myanmar World

According to local sources, around 100 members of the Arakan Army (AA) conducted a cordon and search operation on 27 October 2025 in Thu U Lar and Dar Gyi Zar village tracts in the northern part of Maungdaw Township.

Residents of Thu U Lar village were gathered at the local school, while AA troops inspected both the villagers and their homes. During the operation, they reportedly arrested Abdul Hussain, son of Mohammod Toyub, from Tharay Aok Dar Gyi Zar village, and took him away, according to locals.

The inspection was reportedly carried out with the participation of newly appointed Rohingya village administrators loyal to the AA, replacing the former village administration committees that had previously been in place in Rohingya villages across northern and southern Maungdaw.

After verifying with local Rohingya residents and community leaders who requested anonymity, wsnews24 has confirmed the authenticity of the incident. Such arbitrary arrests and acts of harassment by the Arakan Army constitute violations of international law.

Locals expressed growing fear and concern over the AA’s ongoing arbitrary actions, saying that such human rights violations by lower-level AA units are undermining peace and stability in the area. They urged senior AA officials as well as the international community to take action to stop these abuses.
