The Arakan Army (AA) has been pressuring members of the Mro ethnic community in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, to relocate from their homes by November 15, citing “security reasons.” The authenticity of this information has been verified by WSNews24 after speaking with local residents.
Local residents said the AA issued relocation orders to Buddhist Mro villagers in northern Maungdaw — including Done Nyo, Upper Inn Chaung, Lower Inn Chaung, and Ban Taik villages — claiming that instability in the area was caused by “threats and sabotage” from the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).
The AA reportedly instructed those displaced to move to Thit Tone Nar Khu Sone and Baung villages in Maungdaw Township. Meanwhile, AA members have been buying villagers’ livestock at unfairly low prices, residents said.
Clashes between AA and ARSA have recently intensified in Maungdaw, and local reports indicate that both Mro villagers and some Rohingya have faced increasing pressure to either relocate or serve in armed duties.
