More Than 33 Civilians Killed, Nearly 100 Injured in Junta Airstrike on Mrauk-U Public Hospital

More than 33 unarmed civilians were killed and nearly 100 others injured when the Myanmar military junta carried out an airstrike on the Mrauk-U Public Hospital in Rakhine State, according to local residents.

The attack occurred at approximately 9:13 p.m. on December 10, when junta aircraft dropped two 500-pound bombs directly on the hospital without any provocation.

A member of a local rescue team said:
“More than 33 people have died. Many of the victims were patients receiving treatment inside the hospital — children, elderly people, and those with chronic illnesses. The number of injured is close to 100, and some are in critical condition.”

Among the dead are healthcare workers, and initial reports indicate a high number of child and female victims.

The military junta has been consistently and deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure — including religious buildings, schools, and hospitals — across Rakhine State. The Mrauk-U hospital bombing marks one of the deadliest recent attacks, with a particularly high civilian death toll.
