On January 4, 2026, the Arakan Army (AA) arrested three Rohingya individuals, including one woman, in Gutapyin Village, Buthidaung Township, on allegations of providing food supplies to the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and engaging in illegal phone communications.

The detainees were identified as Daw Arjida (32), U Royas (35), and Maung Ahmad Riyas (15), a minor. According to local villagers, an AA team made up of personnel from multiple departments entered the village and carried out the arrests.

Members of the Rohingya community have confirmed the incident to wsnews24, stating that the arrests were conducted without any evidence being presented to substantiate the accusations.

“Our village is peaceful. Nothing has happened here. I have never seen any ARSA members in this area,” a local villager told wsnews24. “These arrests are creating new fears within the community, and we are worried they could lead to serious consequences. We hope this situation will end soon.”

Local sources said the three individuals are currently being held at a detention center in Area No. 6.

Residents have also expressed particular concern over the arrest of the woman, citing fears for her safety while she remains in custody.

Community members said the arrests have significantly increased fear and insecurity among villagers and urged the Arakan Army to immediately release the three detainees.
