A joint team of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and RAB-11 has arrested three members of an inter-district drug trafficking syndicate and seized 3,798 pieces of Yaba during separate raids across Noakhali and Lakshmipur. The arrests were confirmed through a press release issued Sunday morning.

The operations took place in front of the Baitul Aman Jame Mosque on the Noakhali-Lakshmipur Regional Highway at Tapadar Bazar, Begumganj, and in front of the Noor Hotel and Restaurant at Mandari East Bazar, Chandraganj, Lakshmipur.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Md Harun, 35, son of the late Abdul Hakim of South Karaitola
  • Md Suman, alias Electric Suman, 44, son of the late Md Ruhul Amin of Dilsatpur
  • Md Babul Hossain, 22, son of Md Dulal of Shiladi

Sources said DNC and joint forces acted on a tip-off, posing as buyers in Tapadar Bazar. Harun and Suman were caught red-handed with 3,000 Yaba pills. Based on information obtained during initial interrogations, the team conducted a follow-up raid in Mandari East Bazar, arresting Babul Hossain with an additional 798 Yaba pills.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were formerly drivers who transitioned into drug trafficking, transporting Yaba from Chittagong to supply markets in Noakhali and Lakshmipur. Babul Hossain reportedly used his identity as an auto-rickshaw driver to sell drugs at the retail level.

Subrata Sarkar Shuvo, deputy director of the District Narcotics Control Department, said that in addition to 3,798 Yaba pills, officials seized Tk20,000 in cash, four mobile phones, and a battery-run auto-rickshaw.

Legal proceedings are underway to file separate cases under the Narcotics Control Act at Begumganj Model Police Station and Chandraganj Police Station.
