Coup leader‑turned‑president Min Aung Hlaing visited Pyin Oo Lwin’s Yatanarpon New City—a project run by his son Aung Pyae Sone—on Saturday. He ordered ministries to provide water, electricity and infrastructure to support the venture, effectively mobilizing state resources for his family’s business.

The project spans 10,000 acres (about 4,000 hectares) and has already driven land prices sky‑high, with military elites and cronies cashing in while ordinary buyers face risks.

Min Aung Hlaing often visits Mandalay’s Pyin Oo Lwin, and during his latest visit over the weekend, he announced plans to turn the town into a “healthcare capital” and a major tourist destination.
