The National Liberation Army (NLA), an armed resistance group based in Tamu Township, Sagaing Region, has formally joined the armed wing of the civilian National Unity Government (NUG).
The NUG’s Defense Ministry said the group has been operating as a People’s Defense Force (PDF) unit under its Military Region 1 since last Friday.
According to the NUG, the NLA first emerged in August 2021, then known as the Myanmar Federal Army (MFA).
The NUG has urged independent local resistance forces to join its command in the fight against military dictatorship.
