An earthquake struck Yangon and was strongly felt by residents across the city, according to local reports.
The tremor occurred at around 8:35 a.m. on May 18 and was noticeably felt by many people.
“The earthquake was quite strong. It lasted for about 10 seconds. Since I live in an apartment building, it was very noticeable,” a resident from Thaketa Township said.
“I was eating downstairs at the time, so I clearly felt the earthquake shaking,” a resident from Kyauktada Township said.
The earthquake was also strongly felt in many townships across Yangon Region, including North Dagon Township, East Dagon Township, Yankin Township, and Tamwe Township.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced that an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck near Kyauktan Township in Yangon Region.
