$710 Million Plan for Rohingya Assistance

A total funding requirement of US$710.5 million has been set for comprehensive support for Rohingya refugees this year. The budget proposal covers around 1.5 million people, including Rohingyas living in the camps in Teknaf, Bhasan Char, and local residents in Teknaf.

The information was shared on Wednesday morning (May 20) at the launch event of the UN Joint Response Plan 2026.

The plan allocates the highest amount to food security, totaling $253 million. Other allocations include $132.8 million for shelter, $78 million for protection, $64 million for water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), $54 million for education, and $53 million for healthcare.

In addition, around $40 million has been proposed for skills development programs, and $31.4 million for nutrition support.

Out of the total requirement, the United States has pledged $150 million in assistance. The remaining funds are expected to come from donors including the European Union, Canada, Australia, and other international agencies.

Compared to last year, this year’s budget is about $250 million lower. However, as of April, 63% of the total required funding has already been raised, amounting to approximately $430 million.
