Myanmar junta chief Min Aung Hlaing departed for India on Friday, 30 May, on an official goodwill visit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to state media.
Min Aung Hlaing, who heads Myanmar’s military government, left Naypyidaw aboard a special aircraft accompanied by a delegation of cabinet ministers and senior officials.
State media reported that the visit will include meetings with India’s President and Prime Minister, as well as discussions with Indian government ministers, state leaders and representatives from business organizations.
The junta leader is also expected to visit major infrastructure projects during the trip.
According to the military administration, the visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Myanmar and India in areas including economic development, religion, culture and social affairs, while providing an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
The visit comes as Myanmar’s military government seeks to deepen diplomatic and economic engagement with regional partners amid ongoing political and economic challenges following the 2021 military coup.
