Arakan Army Arbitrary Arrests Continue in Maungdaw Township.

International Myanmar World

In Ward (2) of Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, the Arakan Army (AA) arbitrarily arrested ten people from ten Rohingya families, accusing them of being illegal entrants from Bangladesh, and held them at a police station, according to local residents who spoke to Wsnews24.

These arbitrary arrests have caused deep concern among family members, with both relatives of the detainees and local residents saying that AA’s repeated actions are psychologically traumatizing the Rohingya community.

However, reports indicate that on the evening of August 26, 2025, the AA released those who had been detained after reaching some form of arrangement. One family member of a released detainee told Wsnews24:

“The AA took them away without giving any reason, which constantly makes us fearful and anxious. Today, at least, the family has been reunited, so we feel a little relief.”

Human rights observers monitoring the Rakhine situation said that such AA actions not only violate basic human rights but also further oppress the Rohingya, who are already stateless and displaced from their homes.

They added that human rights advocates are urging the AA not to exploit innocent civilians for their own political gain and to comply with international human rights standards.
