U.S. Special Envoy Charles Hester urged the need for global support for the Rohingya, as well as the people of Myanmar and its ethnic minorities, according to media reports.

Hester stated that it is not sufficient for the United States alone to provide assistance, but rather the entire international community must work together to help. He emphasized that everyone’s support is needed to rebuild conditions where lives can be saved and dignity restored.

At the United Nations General Assembly, during discussions on the situation of the Rohingya and ethnic minorities in Myanmar, Hester reportedly called on all nations, regional organizations, and donors to cooperate and provide assistance.

The U.S. government also announced that it is preparing to provide over 60 million dollars in support for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Hester expressed deep gratitude for the assistance already extended by the governments of Bangladesh and Thailand.

He also voiced concern over the ongoing conflict in Rakhine State, calling on both the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) to ensure the protection of civilians. Furthermore, Hester stated that the U.S. government strongly opposes the military council’s planned election.
