South Korea Sends 20,000 Metric Tons of Rice for Rohingya Refugees

South Korea has sent 20,000 tons of rice as humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees sheltered in Bangladesh. The aid will be distributed among the displaced population in Cox’s Bazar camps through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul shared the information on Wednesday (October 8). According to the embassy, South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) organized a ceremony on October 1 at Gunsan Port to mark the departure of the vessel carrying the rice shipment.

Tarajul Islam, Counsellor at the Bangladesh Embassy, attended the event along with the Director General of MAFRA’s International Cooperation Bureau, the Deputy Regional Director of the UN WFP, and senior officials from South Korea’s local government.

During the event, Counsellor Tarajul Islam expressed gratitude to the South Korean government for its continued humanitarian support to the Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh.
