Illegal Drugs Worth Ks11.7 Billion Seized in Natmauk Township; Suspected Connection to Arakan Army

Authorities in Myanmar have seized a large consignment of illegal drugs valued at approximately Ks11.7 billion in Natmauk Township, Magway Region. According to the Myanmar government website Global New Light of Myanmar, the drugs were reportedly intended for delivery to a local figure linked to the Arakan Army (AA) in Ann Township, Rakhine State.
On April 4, 2026, acting on a tip-off, security forces intercepted two vehicles transporting the drugs along the route from Yamethin to Padan. A Toyota Prado and a light truck were stopped near a checkpoint and a nearby village, and three suspects were arrested.
Officers discovered 7.8 million stimulant tablets hidden inside 39 sacks concealed under lime bags. The total estimated street value of the drugs is around Ks11.7 billion, with each tablet valued at approximately Ks1,500.
According to the suspects, the drugs were allegedly arranged by a fugitive, Kyaw Win Aung (alias Pa-O), and transported from the Wan Hai area to Kalaw Township before being routed toward Padan. From there, the drugs were reportedly intended for onward delivery to Ann Township in Rakhine State.
Authorities have stated that legal action is being taken against those arrested, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspects and identify others involved in the trafficking network. The government has also urged the public to confidentially report information related to drug trafficking, offering rewards for credible tips that lead to arrests.
