Southern Chin State hit by nearly 50 junta airstrikes in two weeks

International Myanmar World
As part of its push to regain lost ground in southern Chin State, Myanmar’s regime carried out around 50 airstrikes on the resistance-controlled townships of Mindat, Kanpetlet and Matupi within two weeks from May 11 to May 22, according to locals and the Chin People’s Union/Chin People’s Army (CPU/ CPA).

The attacks resulted in five deaths—including a child and some junta soldiers detained as prisoners of war—and destroyed dozens of civilian homes and government buildings.

Furthermore, on May 23 and the morning of May 24, Matupi and Kanpetlet were hit by approximately 13 more airstrikes.

In an attempt to regain control of southern Chin, the regime launched a ground offensive near Kanpetlet on May 21, sparking fierce clashes, which continue.

Some pro-military online commentators claimed regime forces have managed to enter parts of Kanpetlet.
