Four local Muslim men have been arrested by Myanmar military personnel in Sittwe, Rakhine State, according to local sources.
The detainees have been identified as Ko Gaw Ni, a pharmacy owner from Thae Chaung Market; Ko Shwe Maung and Ko Maung Maung from Ohn Taw Gyi displacement camp and Ko Aro Chita from Thet Kay Pyin village.
Sources said that on 24 May, more than 40 members of the military and allied security forces entered Thae Chaung Market carrying weapons and arrested Ko Gaw Ni after reportedly assaulting him.
The other three men were arrested at their homes on 23 May. The reasons for their detention remain unclear.
Earlier, on 21 May, another local resident, Ko Chit Hlaing, an ethnic Rakhine youth from Sat Yoe Kyar displacement camp, was also arrested by military personnel.
Residents say arrests of both Rakhine and Muslim youths have been taking place in Sittwe in recent weeks. The whereabouts and conditions of those detained are currently unknown.
