Bangladesh has taken a leading role in the adoption of a significant resolution on sustainable bioeconomy at a regional session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), held in Bangkok.

The resolution was unanimously adopted at the 82nd session of UN ESCAP, following its initiation by Bangladesh. It received strong backing from member states and is being seen as an important recognition of Bangladesh’s growing leadership in regional development policymaking.

The resolution emphasizes the need for sustainable and inclusive economic growth across the Asia-Pacific region. It highlights key priorities such as promoting a circular economy, improving resource efficiency, and expanding the use of science and technology in development processes.

It also calls for enhanced regional cooperation through greater knowledge sharing, increased investment, and the development of bioeconomy value chains. According to the text of the resolution, the bioeconomy is not merely a conceptual framework but a practical approach to addressing climate change challenges and ensuring long-term sustainable development.

Several countries, including India, China, and Nepal, co-sponsored the initiative, reflecting a broad regional consensus on the importance of advancing the bioeconomy agenda.

Analysts note that this achievement further strengthens Bangladesh’s diplomatic profile and its role in shaping international and regional development discussions.
